The phantom settlement “Shikaribetsu Lake Kotan,” which appears only on Lake Shikaribetsu during the coldest winter season. On the frozen lake surface, igloos and an ice bar made of snow and ice line up, creating a special winter world that can only be experienced here.
The appeal of Kotan is its diverse range of experiences that can only be enjoyed here.
You can make an ice glass in your favorite shape and actually use it at the ice bar in the “Ice Glass Making” activity, or enjoy the exhilarating feeling of dynamically racing across the silver-white landscape with “snowmobiling” and “snow rafting.” You can also take a quiet walk through the forest on snowshoes, and at night enjoy night watching to feel the starry sky and the presence of nature.

As the seasons change, the event content also changes. A wide variety of activities are prepared so that you can enjoy your visit no matter how many times you come.
Lake Shikaribetsu is also known as a geopark with one of Japan’s largest caldera lakes, making it a place where you can experience the formation of the land and the power of nature. “Shikaribetsu Lake Kotan,” completed through the collaboration of nature and people, is a spectacular winter scene of Hokkaido that you should experience at least once in your lifetime.
