About 3 Hours from Cheongju to Tokachi / Obihiro

From Cheongju International Airport in Korea, it takes just three hours by direct flight to Tokachi-Obihiro Airport — the gateway to the Tokachi region in Hokkaido.
(The return flight from Obihiro to Cheongju takes about two and a half hours.)
With round-trip fares sometimes starting from the 20,000-yen range, this popular route makes visiting wintertime Hokkaido easy and affordable.

After arriving, it’s about 40 minutes by airport shuttle bus to central Obihiro, ensuring smooth access.
Even first-time visitors to Hokkaido will find the route easy to navigate.

The Charm of Obihiro, Hokkaido

Tokachi and Obihiro are known for their harsh winters, even by Hokkaido standards.
In January, the average temperature hovers around −8°C, and it often drops below −15°C at dawn and dusk.
When the radiative cooling phenomenon occurs, it can feel as cold as −30°C.
Yet, despite this extreme cold, travelers continue to visit this frosty land.

Experiencing a hot-air balloon flight or skiing under the clear winter sky are truly unique Tokachi experiences.
Afterward, a soak in the moor hot springs — one of the world’s rare plant-based thermal waters — gently warms your body from within.

As Japan’s “food base,” Tokachi’s winter ingredients become even richer in flavor,
and local dishes such as pork rice bowls and sweets make the journey even more delightful.
In the depths of the cold lies warmth and joy — that’s why so many visitors eagerly await winter’s arrival here.

17:50 Arrival at Obihiro Station Bus Terminal

There are very few restaurants near your destination, the Obihiro Grand Hotel. It is smoother to have your meal around Obihiro Station before heading to the hotel.

18:00 Dinner: Enjoy Obihiro’s Specialty “Pork Bowl”

When you think of Obihiro’s specialties, pork bowl is the first dish that comes to mind. Grilled over charcoal, it’s a must-try when visiting Obihiro. Head to “Butahage,” a long-established shop located inside the station.

Their secret sauce, perfected over more than 80 years, is still handmade today—slowly simmered for half a day in each pot. The black pepper gives it a kick, and the spicy pork pairs perfectly with the rice.

Extra sauce and pepper are available on the table, so you can adjust the flavor to your liking.

Taxi Fares in Obihiro (as of December 2025)

Taxis in Obihiro have an initial fare of 690 yen (approximately 6,500 won), which is reasonable. However, the additional fare per distance is higher than in Korea, and the total cost increases more quickly for longer rides.

For this reason, a good way to save on travel costs is to walk around the station area and use taxis only for places that take more than 10–15 minutes on foot.

However, in winter, road surfaces in Obihiro can be slippery and walking may be difficult. Prioritize safety and use taxis when necessary.

Fare TypePrice
Initial Fare690 yen for the first 1,400 m (approx. 6,300–6,900 won)
Additional Fare80 yen for every 249 m thereafter (approx. 720–800 won)
